Study for Lent

Our study group utilised the workshop in “Friends and Enemies”by Ruth Burgess  on Haiku Prayer to help us write some prayers of our own.

The earthquake and tsunami in Japan and the loss they brought was very much on our minds.

The result was these two prayers, in the longer 31 syllable Haiku style.

  1. Give hope to Japan
    In grief and desolation
    God calls us to pray
    For families torn apart
    For a nation healed again.

  2. Sudden death and loss
    horrific devastation
    out of fear comes calm
    Communities made homeless
God wrap your arms around them.
